DIM Things Premeire – Groupie “Half Wave”

At last, Brooklyn based post-punks, Groupie, are putting themselves on the map with their debut LP, Ephemeral. After two wonderful EP’s, five years of practice, and honing their craft to honor their influences, this four-piece outfit that we’ve grown to love is ready to take on the world. Per Ashley Kossakowski’s (bass, vocals) words; “Ephemeral juxtaposes the too-fleeting intimacies that establish a sense of belonging, as well as the changes that displace us. It deftly navigates the mental health challenges that come along with the ebbs and flows of belonging and displacement.” And if that doesn’t get you riled up and ready to listen, take a peek at the track below.

We’re shining the spotlight on the first single, “Half Wave”, from the forthcoming album. “Half wave” is a surf pop track that pulls influence from 70’s punk. It’s full of passionate vocals, punchy guitars, and bass lines that’ll have you groovin’ from 0:01. Kossakowski wrote this tune while crawling her way out of an awful relationship. It offers commentary about unrealistic standards in dating and feelings that aren’t reciprocated by a partner. Something I think we can all relate to in some way, shape, or form. The phrase “give up on perfection” is repeated with such passion throughout “Half Wave.” It serves as a gentle reminder of those unrealistic expectations that people have for each other.

While this album very well may be released while we’re all stuck at home, Groupie is extremely optimistic about the day we get to see them play live again. As you’ll soon find out, Ephemeral finds strength in theme and composition. “We try to digest complex issues through music and hope that our music offers a similar catharsis for our listeners,” says Ashley. Groupie does exactly that. Be sure to check out “Half Wave” and keep your eyes peeled. They’re doing big things.
