DIM Spotlight – Service “get the bread”

Sitting under the DIM Spotlight today is Brooklyn’s own Service. They recently dropped their first single “get the bread,” a powerful, heavy track with the perfect touch of ethereal noise flowing throughout. Service has been a DIM Things favorite since they joined us for Bat Kid‘s tape release show. They were both loud and extremely tight, putting on a killer show. Now we have “get the bread,” which is a perfect first introduction for those of you who missed that gig.

From the first beat on, you’re drenched in ambient noise flooding over the relentlessly driving rhythm section. A commanding bass line pulls you along as the dissonant vocals stretch their way across each measure. Less than thirty seconds in it drops to half time leaving you powerless to the head rocking that’s surely about to take over. The guitar leaves a long interweaving trail of noise behind each note played, quickly filling up the mix creating a massive wall of sound. Service is at their finest when the rhythm is charging forward and the guitar and vocals work together to create a noisy soundscape above. It’s a deadly combination you won’t grow tired of.

“Get the bread” was the first song Service wrote together as a band, so they found it fitting to make it the first track they release. A song like this really makes you excited for what’s to come next. Let’s hope they can get together soon to keep writing and recording, I am looking forward to their next single, and really can’t wait until I can hear it live again.
