Speed Dating with Spite FuXXX

Spite FuXXX make self described “trash noise punk” music. The rambunctious group have such an undeniable IDGAF attitude both on and off the stage – but like in a cool way! They’re the kinda band I’d want to see the first day after this quarantine ends because I know there would be lots of dancing, lots of screaming, sequins, and piggy back rides. Keep reading to learn more about their songwriting and find out who is most likely to start a fight at a bar.

How did Spite FuXXX come together as a band?
A couple years ago, MG was explaining to Greg the difference between a hate fuck and a spite fuck (a hate fuck is when you fuck someone you hate, a spite fuck is when you fuck an uninvolved 3rd party out of spite for the person you hate). Greg says, “we should start a band and name it Spite Fucks.”  Some months later, we asked Anaïs to play guitar, and then when a couple of bands Alex was in were winding down, we recruited him for drums. We’d written a few songs as a band when Greg asked Lilly, who’d recently left her band, to fuck around with some synth, and it was obvious she was the final missing ingredient we needed.

What do you like writing music about?
Prole politics, our posthumanist present and future and the friction between the simultaneously heightened connectivity and isolation we experience within it…. as well as some highbrow topics like getting drunk at the Burger King on Myrtle and Bleecker.  And of course, spite ;))

Style icons?
FRED FUCKIN SCHNEIDER. Janelle Monae. Barbarella. Kim Gordon. And of course, Dionysus himself (Iggy Pop).

Any band goals for 2020?
We recorded our first record, so we’re excited to put that out this summer!  Followed by maybe a mini-tour. We’d also planned to have a 7″ release on May 15th (doubling as MG’s 30th birthday party), so we’ve got our fingers crossed that the shutdown magically ends before that, but of course gotta take things as they come.  It’s bizarre not knowing when or if things will return to normal.

What are you guys doing to help pass the time during this quarantine?
A lot of bullshitting that first week, but I think now that we’re all bored, we’re gonna try to work on some crafts and other creative things that have been on the back-burner, as funds permit, and working on mixing and finishing the record. We’d like to be able to practice together at some point if it’s safe to do so, start writing some new stuff.

What’s a normal band practice like for you guys?
We say we’ll all meet at 8, we eventually all trickle over by, like, 8:30, then we shotgun a few spiked seltzers, run thru a few songs, and then work on any new songs or polish anything that needs it, peppered by conversation fragments that could rival a group of kindergartners high as balls on pixie stix.

So I’ve noticed – you guys like giving each other piggyback rides?
We like to think of ourselves as DIY Power Rangers – gotta build that Megazord!

Who is the most likely in the band to get in a fight with someone at a bar?
Instigate? MG. Throw down? Alex. End that shit, bouncer-style? Anaïs.

Favorite show you’ve played together?
Opening for the New Bomb Turks at St Vitus!  What a blast of a night! Followed by the family affair at The Broadway (Meal, Lackadazies, and Content) – hard not to be on cloud nine when all yr friends are playing!

Any post show rituals?
Shots! Shots! Shots!
